WALTER BENJAMIN UND DAS GEDÄCHTNIS DER NAMENLOSEN
In 2018, 65 young people from across Europe met in Portbou, Spain, as part of a dance theater project to explore the themes of escape, asylum, and migration together with choreographers. The result? A captivating piece that, in memory of Walter Benjamin, fights against forgetting the nameless victims.
Under the banner of escape, asylum, the new European right-wing populism, and the work of Walter Benjamin, young people from Saarbrücken, Lorraine, Nantes, Sarajevo, and Târgu Jiu were invited to live, dance, and reflect together for two weeks in Portbou, Spain. Housed in a school, the young people trained daily in empty classrooms, the gymnasium, and the courtyard. The 60-minute dance theater piece premiered in Portbou.
